WaaS Up?

There’s a new type of managed service being added to corporate IT strategies and it’s called Wireless-as-a-Service (WaaS). Nearly everyone has heard of the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) business model, delivering software solutions that don’t burden the customer with managing the service or covering costly upgrades. WaaS offers the same flexibility for high-performance commercial wireless networks (Wi-Fi and WLAN).

We live in a time where we are constantly surrounded by technology. Most of us comfortably carry enough computer power in our pockets to simultaneously send multiple space missions to the moon and back (ZME Science). With the rapid production of wireless devices and the access to powerful technology, our expectations for business wireless communication are the same as we have for electricity, water, and other utilities – always available, cost-effective, and simple to operate.

For businesses that have large or multiple worksites, or an operation that requires a range of devices, wireless networking is the leading way to keep everything connected. This capability to combine all devices an operation needs into one manageable service becomes even more of an advantage for unplanned situations like emergencies and natural disasters (Cambium Networks).

Does your IT department have time to research the trends in mobile devices and respond to inquiries about why a device is having trouble connecting? Probably not, and they shouldn’t have to.

With the demand for wireless connectivity, especially in remote locations, IT departments need a way to manage multiples devices and technologies on a seamless network. Nova’s Wireless-as-a-Service represents the easiest path for organizations to quickly implement secure commercial wireless services across Canada, to leverage and grow their existing networks without spending time worrying about (or dealing with) all the technical details. Nova Communications has the wireless expertise, survey and design software tools (ekahau) to ensure complete site coverage with the equipment from premier vendors like Cisco and Cambium Networks, that guarantee performance (see links below).

WaaS provides everything required for reliable wireless access, including upgrades, all for a single monthly payment:

  1. Infrastructure – All of the hardware and equipment, from your internet service to access points, switches, and firewalls.
  2. Software – Managed and embedded wireless security software with real-time visibility, captive portal, business intelligence options, location services, and analytical reporting.
  3. Managed Services – 24/7 remote monitoring and troubleshooting of configuration issues, executive dashboards with weekly/monthly reporting. Firmware upgrades and advanced options such as onsite support SLAs and application level bandwidth controls/analytics.

WaaS (or WiFi-as-a-Service) also provides enforcement firewalls, spectrum analysis, zero-touch AP provisioning, and enables users to self-register for access to hotspots and the corporate WLAN. Access points include multiple high-power 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz client-service radios, with a dedicated security radio that continuously scans and protects against security threats. The security radio senses the RF environment, adapts to interference, and automatically configures RF settings to maximize performance. WaaS allows for rapid deployment of services for businesses with limited CapEx or IT resources to provide fast, secure, and reliable wireless LAN connectivity across multiple locations without the need for engineers on staff.
