Nova Communications Sponsors 2012 Tall Ships Festival

Communication systems installed by Nova Communications will help hundreds of volunteers, crew members, and security personnel coordinate activities and communicate during this year’s 2012 Tall Ships Festival, July 19-23.

The five day event is expected to draw thousands if not tens of thousands of spectators from across Atlantic Canada. With that amount of people packing the Halifax waterfront, the ability for organizers to coordinate activities and communicate with team leads and hundreds of volunteers is among the most critical operational aspects of the festival.

Working closely with festival organizers, Nova Communications designed and installed a state of the art digital two-way radio system that provides multi-channel communications to all groups including central operations, ship Liaison officers, crew services, volunteers, transportation and security.

The two-way radios are programmed to take advantage of a temporary repeater installed in Dartmouth for harbour and waterfront coverage, and Nova’s Halifax-based repeater for wider range in-vehicle communications outside the downtown core. GPS tracking of vehicles was also installed to increase efficiency of goods delivery and pickup, and people transportation.

Nova Communications also provided cellular phones for communications to commercial businesses in the Halifax area.
