Motorola Solutions Acquired by Zebra Technologies: What Customers Need to Know
Last month, Zebra Technologies announced that it’s acquiring Motorola Solutions’ Enterprise business for $3.45 billion, including Motorola’s mobile computing and identity data capture communications technologies and services. Zebra is best known as a maker of barcode scanning, RFID, and other identification and location-tracking technologies.
The acquisition is scheduled to be complete by the end of the year, and once complete, Zebra and the acquired Enterprise business from Motorola Solutions will operate as a combined business under the Zebra Technologies name. Approximately 4,500 Motorola Solutions employees will transfer to Zebra as part of the deal, as will 3,300 granted and pending patents. In the meantime, the integration planning process is already underway with a primary objective of maintaining business continuity with no disruption to ongoing business.

Motorola Solutions will retain its Mission Critical product portfolio and will continue its government business, including its professional commercial radio product portfolio – continuing to manufacture, design, integrate and deliver industry-leading voice and data communication solutions for corporate, government and public safety customers worldwide. Motorola Solutions sells these secure, mission-critical products and solutions with cutting edge software designs for a variety of corporate and government applications, including public safety.
