Employees Collect Donations for Canadian Food Banks
Each year, Nova Communications employees collect donations to be distributed to food banks across Canada. This year’s recipients are 11 different food banks across Canada, from Sydney, Nova Scotia to Delta, British Columbia.
According to Food Banks Canada, there are over 500 food banks across Canada and close to 900,000 Canadians using food banks on a monthly basis.
In conjunction with Nova Communications and its partner, Motorola, FEED NOVA SCOTIA is now benefitting from the use of two way radio communications to distribute more than two million kilograms of donated food to more than 150 member agency food banks and meal programs.
Almost all of the food flows through the charitable organization’s primary sorting and distribution facility which consists of three warehouses on a single property.
Coordinating warehouse activities and the corresponding use of forklift equipment between each warehouse are critical for the organization says FEED NOVA SCOTIA’s Executive Director, Dianne Swinemar.
“To strengthen capacity in building orders and shipping food to our network of member food banks, FEED NOVA SCOTIA recently started using Motorola DTR650 radios,” she says.
“After all, every minute spent walking between warehouses to communicate was a minute that could have been spent sorting food and preparing orders for distribution. The benefit of the radios was instantly noticeable. They have led to more efficient communication, meaning staff are able to complete warehouse activities in a more timely manner.”
