5 Ways Two Way Radios Make Construction Easier
Canada is known for having one of the largest, and strongest, construction industries in the world – in commercial, residential and infrastructure development. This industry, which dates back long before the official founding of Canada in 1867, is often busier during strong economic times, but has remained a strong factor in Canada’s GDP on an annual basis.
Now, with more than 1.2 million men and women employed across the country in construction, making it a $171 billion industry annually, construction has remained a consistent and reliable industry for employability in Canada.
Also consistent and reliable is the tool often used by the construction industry to maintain communications among team members – the two way radio. For years, construction companies and contractors have seen the advantages of the technology – from the quality of the product, to the durability, two way radios have answered the call.
And that is for many reasons:
Rugged Requirements – In construction, equipment gets dropped – that is inevitable. But, having a technology that can stand up to that, along with the shocks, vibrations and more your team would put it through on a daily basis is imperative. Cell phones aren’t going to handle those bumps and bruises. Two way radios are built for that, and more, and are tested at Motorola facilities to ensure they do.
Long Days – Working sun up until sun down (and sometimes even longer) can be a lot on some technologies. But, with the latest in digital two way radio technology, you can find two way radio batteries that last up to 29 hours! Imagine not having to charge your technology at the end of every shift (or even mid-shift).
Exposure to Elements – The construction industry happens in rain, snow, hot temperatures, and whatever Canadian weather can throw its way. Two way radios are not daunted by this weather, or freezing temperatures, and continue to work when you need it most – often rated from -30C to 60C. And, for those working in or around water, there are also two way radios rated completely waterproof for up to two hours of exposure to water with IP Ratings of 67 or more. When you’re a road crew working on paving a highway on a hot day, or working in the depths of Canadian winters, surrounded by snow, sleet and hail, your two way radio will work, and can be relied upon to keep your team in touch.
Noisy Work Environments – Construction sites are noisy, but communication is imperative even with the noise happening around you. Motorola heard the call with this and, in the latest digital two way radios, there is often a feature known as Intelligent Audio – which automatically reduces background noise to ensure you’re hearing the message from your teammates the first time.
Safety Features – Safety in the construction remains at the forefront of a number of companies minds. Often times, this starts with communication – and for good reason. Depending on the job, employees in construction can find themselves working alone for extended periods of time. A number of two way radios have safety features such as Lone Worker and emergency call buttons that help those employees to keep in quick contact when they need it most.
In industries such as construction, safety is key. But safety can’t happen without communication. To remain an important part of Canadian business, construction industries and companies are demanding to be better and safer to meet the needs of the customer.
Two way radios have been known to increase both efficiency and productivity in not only construction, but across the vast number of industries that continue to use its technology for communication. When communication needs to happen, people in the construction industry and beyond have relied on two way radios. At the push of a button, it has been proven to provide answers and solutions, communication and connection among team members.
